At Michels & Taylor, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a commitment. One of the most impactful steps we've taken recently is the rollout of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations across our managed estate. Led by the NRG Team, this initiative is helping us meet the evolving needs of our guests while supporting a greener future.
The EV charging project has been a significant success, expanding from just three hotels to twelve properties now equipped with charging stations. This marks a meaningful shift toward sustainable mobility and reflects our dedication to innovation and guest experience. The rollout was delivered on time, with strong collaboration between PE and individual site teams, ensuring smooth implementation across the board.
Chris Spires from the NRG Team at Michels & Taylor shared his thoughts on the rollout: “The EV charging rollout has been a significant success across the M&T managed estate. Expanding from three to now twelve hotels with EV chargers marks a meaningful shift towards sustainable mobility.”
Feedback from both leisure guests and corporate clients has been overwhelmingly positive. EV charging is increasingly seen as a standard amenity, and its availability enhances perceptions of M&T as a forward-thinking, environmentally conscious brand. Several business clients have even cited EV charging as a deciding factor when choosing venues for conferences and overnight stays.
We now have over 95 operational EV chargers across 12 hotels, with most sites offering between 4 to 10 units, tailored to demand and electrical capacity. Locations with the highest demand include Hilton Bournemouth, DoubleTree by Hilton Elstree and DoubleTree by Hilton Stoke.
Usage data shows a steady upward trend, with peak utilisation aligning with weekends and mid-week corporate travel. We’re also seeing longer dwell times, suggesting guests are factoring charging into their overnight or event stays, a strong indicator of how embedded EV charging is becoming in travel planning.
Looking ahead, we’re actively assessing demand at each site to determine where additional chargers may be needed. Our installations are designed with scalable infrastructure, allowing for quick expansion. We’re also reviewing energy capacity at key sites to ensure we can meet future demand as EV adoption continues to grow.
This initiative directly supports M&T’s wider sustainability commitments, helping reduce transport-related emissions and improve energy efficiency. It complements our broader efforts in energy waste reduction, on-site generation, and behavioural change programmes.
All hardware has been sourced through vetted suppliers with strong sustainability credentials. We work only with partners who align with our ethical and environmental standards, ensuring energy-efficient equipment and minimal disruption during installation.
EV infrastructure is quickly becoming an expected facility in hospitality. By staying ahead of the curve, M&T is positioning itself as a leader in eco-conscious travel, enhancing our appeal to both leisure and corporate audiences. It’s not just about meeting expectations - it’s about exceeding them.
