Sustainability in action: how we’ve saved 2 tonnes of plastic waste
At DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Airport, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a commitment we live by every day.

At Michels & Taylor, sustainability isn’t just a buzzword, it’s a commitment we embed across our managed hotels. DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Airport is a great example of this in action.
Since introducing large-format toiletry bottles, the hotel has diverted over 2,100 kg of plastic waste from landfills, contributing to a total of 2.3 tonnes of soap and plastic collected through their partnership with Clean the World.
This initiative has helped create 4,450 bars of recycled soap, 51 hygiene kits, and a reduction of 301 kg of CO₂ emissions. Most importantly, it has supported 458 people, including 131 refugees, with essential hygiene resources—and saved over 6,000 litres of water.
Max Flude, General Manager at DoubleTree Manchester Airport, states: "Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do at DoubleTree by Hilton Manchester Airport. I’m incredibly proud of the strides our team has made, diverting over two tonnes of plastic waste and supporting communities around the world through our partnership with Clean the World. These achievements are a testament to our commitment to making a meaningful difference, not just for our guests, but for the planet and people in need.
Through initiatives like this, our hotels are part of a global movement turning everyday hotel waste into life-changing support for communities in need. At Michels & Taylor, it’s not just about where you stay - it’s about the difference we make together.
